This report, commissioned as a part of a State-wide heritage survey, includes a contextual history from the 1820s onwards of public roads, bridges, and associated structures and areas related to road transport across Queensland. It includes historical information about key themes, significant people, important phases, government organisations, design developments, and places in the road transport history of Queensland. Places of potential heritage significance were identified and a guide to sources of information useful when assessing the significance of these roads and bridges included. An appendix lists a glossary of place types and components of roads and bridges.
