The University of Queensland’s Department of Business Administration (later Department of Management) opened in 1972 with three academic staff, 47 students (chosen from 78 applicants) and one degree program – the first MBA in Queensland. This history, compiled using University and external sources as well as numerous interviews, centres on the period 1972 to 2002 – the time it took for a fledgling Department to develop into one of the two academic groupings within the UQ Business School, formed in 2002 when Management and the Department of Commerce amalgamated.
